A Letter to our Future Scholars
To our Future Lansing Promise Scholars:
First and foremost, understand that this community believes in you and your future.
Second. Maybe you already know this, but if you live run Lansing and go to a school in Lansing, you might be a Future Promise Scholar.
What’s a Promise Scholar? I’m glad you asked.
If you live within the Lansing School District boundaries from 9th through 12th grades, attend a school within the Lansing School District Boundaries from 9th through 12th grades, graduate from a school within the Lansing School District Boundaries, and want to attend Lansing Community College, Michigan State University or Olivet College, you are on your way to joining the ranks of 1,400 other Lansing Promise Scholars who have already set foot on the campus of Lansing Community College, Michigan State University or Olivet College, completing their certificates & degrees, and even starting their careers.
We want each of you to know a simple truth. You matter. More specifically, you more than matter, because what you do matters, who you are matters and who you become matters. A Promise Scholar understands that the choices you make, matter both now and into the future. That everything you do matters to your family, your friends, your neighbors, your teachers, and to this entire community. More importantly your choices matter to you, especially the future you.
Why should I become a Promise Scholar? Scholarships, Employment, Internships & Community.
Scholarships = Free Money. A Promise Scholar can receive up to 65 credits in tuition assistance to go to Lansing Community College, or the equivalent dollar amount at Michigan State University or Olivet College. While the Promise is not a full ride, it’s a good start.
Understand that the future is bright, but it will be brighter with you doing something you love. And in this economy, success after high school will take some kind of training, degree or certificate to make your career a reality.
Employment & Internships = A Brighter Future. Once you graduate from high school and become a Promise Scholar you will be joining an important community, the Promise Community. As a Promise Scholar, opportunities will be made available for anyone who is willing to put in the work at some of the best businesses in the city. We want you to get a job you love, at a place you love, doing what you love.
Community = What You Make It. Lansing is its people, you are the future of this city.
So how do I become a Promise Scholar?
